Protests erupt outside Kasba Police station as 3 arrested in alleged Kolkata college gang rape
BJP legislators in West Bengal have returned the sarees gifted to them by CM Mamata Banerjee during the Durga Puja festival. Last week, the CM had sent sarees as festive gifts to women MLAs from both the ruling TMC and the opposition BJP through the Assembly Secretariat. However, the opposition BJP MLAs decided to return the sarees, citing issues such as police failures, acquittals in criminal cases, violence against BJP workers, and alleged oppression of women as reasons for their decision.
According to Assembly sources, gifts were distributed to Trinamool women MLAs by Minister Chandrima Bhattacharya, while Minister Firhad Hakim conveyed the Chief Minister's best wishes and presented gifts to the BJP MLAs. The decision to return the sarees was made on the instructions of opposition leader Subhendu Adhikari. BJP MLA Agnimitra Pal expressed the party's reasons for returning the gifts, highlighting concerns over alleged police failures and a challenging political environment in the state.
